The Turkish Armed Forces have a significant military presence abroad, both due to bilateral agreements, duties within the scope of the United Nations (UN) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and operations arising from security problems.

According to an analysis by a UK-based research organization, Turkey has the second most active army abroad after the United States.

The geographical locations of the countries where Turkish Military Bases or Elements are located on the map are reminiscent of the borders of the Ottoman Empire.
